Termatalia 2026: water, health and the future of Wellness at the heart of international dialogue
On 24 and 25 September 2026, Ourense will once again become an international meeting point for professionals in thermal tourism, health and wellbeing. The 24th International Thermal Tourism, Health and Wellness Fair – Termatalia will take place at Expourense and will host the 7th International Congress on Water and Health.
This year’s programme reflects the transformation taking place across the industry. Thermalism is no longer considered solely through traditional water-based treatments, but increasingly in connection with longevity, prevention, medical hydrology, nutrition, technology, sustainability and the changing expectations of Wellness travellers.
Longevity, active ageing and medical thermalism
The Congress will open with a session focused on active ageing and thermalism, exploring subjects such as hydrology and longevity, the development of new medical thermalism products and nutrition as part of an integrative approach to health.
A dedicated session on the present and future of Wellness will also examine how the concept of wellbeing is evolving and what the Wellness spaces of tomorrow may look like.
Medical Hydrology will form another important part of the programme, including discussions on balneotherapy and prevention, current research and evidence in thermal medicine, and rehabilitation in thermal aquatic environments.
Thermal resorts and the new Wellness traveller One of the central questions at Termatalia 2026 will be how traditional thermalism should respond to the continued growth of global Wellness tourism. Quality and best practices, management of thermal centres and Spas, public-private collaboration and new business models will all form part of the professional conversation. The challenge is to preserve the identity of thermal resorts and the unique value of their natural resources while integrating new experiences for increasingly informed and demanding Wellness travellers. The Congress will also compare different thermal models in Europe and the Americas, examining the role thermal resources can play in the broader development and identity of destinations.
Artificial intelligence enters the thermal sector Innovation will have a dedicated place in the programme through sessions on artificial intelligence and university research. Experts will explore how technology can support research, management and more personalised services in thermal tourism and Wellness while preserving the human dimension that remains central to health and hospitality experiences.
Thalassotherapy, thermal cosmetics and marine resources Alongside the main Congress, the Aqua Space will host professional sessions focused on thermal and marine cosmetics and thalassotherapy. Scientific foundations of thermal cosmetics, therapeutic muds, evidence in thalassotherapy, thalasso-wellness, sustainable marine cosmetics and the development of new products will all feature in the programme. The culture of water will remain another distinctive element of Termatalia. On 24 September, the event will host the 21st International Mineral Water Tasting, alongside additional tasting experiences at the Water Bar.
